I underwent my Pre/Post Natal training with Rachel Swindle of “The Thoughtful Body”, who is a founder member of the Pilates Foundation UK Ltd and is a highly credited Pre/Post Natal teacher throughout the UK. Rachel is a regular trainer within the Pilates Foundation UK Ltd, specialising in workshops such as The Role of the Pelvic Floor in Exercise, as well as Pre-natal and Postnatal Exercise. She also is a guest trainer for the National Childbirth Trust,  The Guild of Teachers of Postnatal Exercise and The Zen School of Shiatsu.

Pilates can be so beneficial whether this is your first pregnancy or subsequent pregnancy. Core Pilates can help to guide you through Pregnancy related exercises which can help support you with the growing changes that your body undertakes. As your pregnancy progresses and the weight of the baby increases, it can begin to tip your pelvis forward. This can lead to problems like sciatica, low back ache and other postural related problems. Through Pilates we can create a supported posture and help prevent pregnancy related backache through specific prenatal exercise programme.

Each trimester of your pregnancy places new demands upon your body which begin to change the shape of your body and spine, together we can look at the issues that concern you and work towards achieving what you need for a positive pregnancy and labour.  We can explore Optimal Foetal Positioning as the birth of your baby draws nearer, preparing both you and your baby for a positive birth experience. Karen Weeks will work in conjunction with and on the recommendation of your midwife and doctor to ensure that you are provided with the most up to date care and attention.  I have linked up with many organisations including; NCT (National Childbirth Trust) and the Guild of Pre/Post Natal Teachers, allowing me to work with clients leading up to and after the birth of their baby. Postnatally we can help you get back into shape more effectively and efficiently. Problems such as Symphysis pubis and Diastasis Recti  (both now coming under the name of Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)), can be helped with a Pilates rehabilitation programme. One to One personal sessions make for a much more personal Pilates Session, which can be tailor-made for the specific needs of each client, this is extremely beneficial to the beginner as well as the more Pilates literate client. As everyone's pregnancy differs, it is important that each new client attends at least 1 121 session prior to joining a small group class. The Pre Natal Group sessions will cover exercises that can prepare your body for birth and the Post Natal Classes can help your body regain its strength and shape.
